History
In December 1996 Petteri Heikkinen and Kari Rönkkö from Tervo were in the Finnish national TV2 programme “Hakupalat” looking for musical saw players. To start with 30 players were found and 13 players took part in the first The Saw is Singing music camp in Tervo organised by Tervon Pelimanniyhdistys (a local folk music society) in 1997.
A total or 7 The Saw is Singing camps were organised in Tervo between 1997-2002 before the father and creator of the idea, the chairman of Tervon Pelimanniyhdistys and a musical saw player himself Petteri Heikkinen suddenly passed away in July 2002. It was a challenge for Tervon Pelimannit to organise The Saw is Singing camp of 2003. During the camp of 2003 a cd called Soivat Sahat (The Singing Saws) was recorded.
During the camps of 2004-2006 the participants had an idea of founding their own society of musical saw players. As a result the responsibility of organising the camps would lie on their own shoulders, they would be better able to promote the musical saw and also have their own www-pages.
